I'm thinking about an abortion. What do I have to do?
It is up to you alone to decide whether you want to continue with or terminate the pregnancy.
According to German law you cannot be punished for an abortion if it is performed during the first 12 weeks.
First, you need to go to a pregnancy conflict counselling centre (Schwangerschaftskonfliktberatungsstelle) and have a confidential counselling session there. You can also remain anonymous to the counsellor, that is up to you. You can ask any question you want. The staff members are sworn to secrecy, they are not allowed to pass on anything you tell them. At the end of the session, you will receive a counselling certificate. You need it for the abortion. You can find more information here.
You do not have to make a decision during the counselling session. You will receive all the information you need to help you decide. Financial questions can also be discussed there.
Three days must pass between counselling and abortion.
